Homeopathic Desensitization
Allergy immunotherapy, often known as allergy shots or desensitization therapy, is designed to reduce or eliminate allergic reactions over time. It works by gradually exposing your immune system to small amounts of the allergens that trigger your symptoms, helping your body build up a tolerance or reduce sensitivity.
There are two main types:
Subcutaneous Immunotherapy (SCIT)
Delivered through regular injections, typically in a doctor’s office.
Starts with a buildup phase (1–2 times per week for 3–6 months), followed by a maintenance phase (every 2–4 weeks for 3–5 years).
Common for pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold, bee venom.
Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)
Involves placing drops or tablets under the tongue (e.g., for grass, ragweed, or dust mites).
Done daily at home, but under medical supervision initially.
Generally considered safer with fewer systemic reactions.
Side Effects:
Local reactions (redness, swelling at injection site)
Systemic reactions (sneezing, nasal congestion, hives)
Rarely, anaphylaxis (which is why SCIT is done under medical supervision)
Homeopathic desensitization—sometimes referred to as homeopathic immunotherapy or isopathic treatment—is an alternative approach to managing allergies. Unlike conventional allergy immunotherapy (which uses small, increasing doses of actual allergens), this method uses highly diluted substances believed to trigger symptoms, following homeopathic principles like “like cures like.”
Key Concepts:
It uses dilutions of the exact allergen (e.g. pollen, dust, mold, animal dander) that causes symptoms.
Comes in liquid, drops, or pellets.
Typically taken orally (sublingually) over a period of time.
Dosages are extremely diluted, often beyond the point of measurable molecules of the original substance and increase it gradually according to the individual body reaction to the substance.
For better results, desensitization should be done while not exposed to the allergen.
Benefits:
Safe, because of the extreme dilution, gentle and non-invasive
Fewer side effects compared to conventional immunotherapy
